Epiphany
My fervent prayer was answered with an Epiphany from Heaven,
Like an electric eel of God’s Truth, she chomped right into me,
Whispering late night love like an a.m. radio song,
Claw-footed, slick, electrified, she jumped into my tub,
She bounced like a rabbit’s foot into my rubber room,
She’s a red hot coin dropped plop into my fountain,
Would gracious God play parlour tricks with some idiot-stick’s salvation?
Can a she-devil bring love and mortal inspiration?
Like the phat tail of a comet, I kept my Epiphany to myself,
Like a lava-lamp idea so bright the damn thing’s burning me,
Epiphany’s a thought too big for my tiny little head,
Epiphany’s so ecstatic that she knocks me to my knees,
Epiphany’s the gorgeous truth that sets my spirit free,
Epiphany says, “When I showed you God, did you thank the King for me?”
For Epiphany’s love deep in the night I sing chain-songs in my stripes,
I’m a black and white love bird in a gangsta’s paradise,
Epiphany knows she’s never ever too late to be of help,
Epiphany knows I’m fighting and losing a war against myself,
Epiphany’s burning bridges like General Sherman in my mind,
And heating up the passageways so angels can’t escape,
Like the phat tail of a comet, I pinched Epiphany for myself,
She’s a lava-lamp idea so bright the damn thing’s burning me,
Her geometry’s too curvy for my square pin-striped little head,
Epiphany’s so ecstatic that she knocks me to my knees.
