She’s Not Waiting

She says she’s not waiting, or wandering
Through wrecks around that reef,
Not counting, the skips
Of heart-shaped stones across the sea,

She’s not whispering,
Nor wishing to stars around the beach,
Not praying to Poseidon,
Not searching the gray horizon,

But I’m waiting now,
I dream she waits for me,
Collecting wild
Stars on the beach,
Building strong,
A home by the sea
I’ve waited long
Days and years and weeks

So I’m planning, I’m devising,
I’m improvising my escape,
Gonna build it, gonna make it
From the bones upon this beach,
Gonna sail it, gonna make it,
Across that stormy sea,
Gonna wreck it, and crawl from it
To the stars beneath her feet

Cause I know she’s waiting,
I know she waits for me,
Collecting wild
Stars on the beach,
She’s building strong,
A home by the sea
I’ve waited long
Days and years and weeks,

She says she’s not waiting.
